On Thursday Year 5 visited the Wycombe Swan Theatre to see a performance of the Horrible Histories “Groovy Greeks.” We had great seats at the front of the circle and were entertained for nearly two hours. The four actors, together with the interactive screen, lights and sound, combined to make a great show. We were entertained by the story of The Trojans in the style of The Simpsons, the Greek philosophers were learning how to get along with each other in the Big Brother house and Athena, Aphrodite, Zeus and Poseidon took part in a singing talent competition. Married women in the audience were advised not to view the events of the Olympic Games where competitors took part without clothing! During the interval we were all given 3D glasses and in the second half we were immersed in the labyrinth as Theseus sought the Minotaur – spiders, bats and weapons flew out at us. The finale was the battles between the Greeks and the Persians at Thermopylae and Salamis where we had to avoid the attacking spears. The whole show was a really enjoyable ending to our work on the Ancient Greeks – we have learnt a lot.
