World Book Day
Manor Farm Junior School turned into Hogwarts School for World Book Day. There was a truly magnificent turn out of Hogwarts dressed pupils and staff. The whole day consisted of a range of activities with a Harry Potter theme. They learnt about different characters in the Harry Potter books. We had pupils designing flying broomsticks, for which they had to consider what they have learnt in Science to make them streamlined and aero-dynamic. Pupils used their English skills to write letters to various characters and others produced potions with disgusting ingredients to make amazing things happen. In my role as Professor Dumbledore, I dropped in on classes and spoke to children about what they were doing and if they were enjoying it. I think its safe to say ‘they loved it’. Even the hall at lunchtime was set out as the Hogwarts Dining Hall. Some children have asked if the Hogwarts uniform with cloak can become our uniform!
Thank you to all parents for making the day successful by sending your child to school in a costume; thanks to all staff for dressing up in character; thanks to Mrs Ketley for taking photographs and posting them on the school website; thanks to Mrs Hillier for organising the day; and thanks to Sarah Lancaster for coming into school and helping put up our World Book Day display in the school entrance hall.
P.S. I rather enjoyed dressing up myself!
