Spring has definitely sprung and as we’re nearly into the Easter holidays we’d like to take this opportunity to update you on the goings on since our last newsletter.
Yet again, the 2015 Fayre was a great success with fantastic support from everyone in the School Community and we managed to raise a fantastic profit of just over £3,500! Thank you to everyone who donated a prize or a bottle of wine, filled a jam jar and came along on the day. And of course a huge thank you goes to everyone who helped set up, run the stalls and clear away – without you there would be no Fayre. J
Always a very well supported event, this year’s quiz night was no exception. With Quiz Master Les Buckle at the helm, 9 teams competed for the kudos (and of course the wine!) of being 2016 winners. The victors by 1 point were ‘3 out of 4 Ain’t Bad’ captained by our own Debra Wells. 2nd place went to ‘Universally Challenged’ with 74 points, ‘Class of 2015’ came 3rd with 70 points and ‘Lean in 15 (Units)’ came in with 69.5 points. Thank you Les and well done to everyone who took part!
Both Schools had book weeks during February 2016. We hope that you continue to find the Friends’ £1 book voucher donation helpful. Reading and books are so important for the children to enjoy and we are delighted to be able to help in this area. On a similar note, the Friends have recently helped the Junior school buy several books for their new Guided Reading programme, which I’m sure you’ll agree is a fantastic use of the fundraising.
Dates for your Diary
There will be a Pre-Loved Uniform Sale in May (date as yet unconfirmed – watch this space). If you have any outgrown or unwanted uniform you would like to donate (summer or winter), please get in contact either via email or Facebook and we will arrange to take it off your hands.
On the 5th May, the Friends will be serving refreshments to all Grandparents visiting Reception children and on 23rd June, it’s the Year 2 Grandparents’ turn. Any bakers out there who would be willing to donate a homemade cake or two, again, please let us know.
For those of you who aren’t aware, we have a school Facebook page. You are all welcome to join and, although it is run independently to the school, those of us on there find it a useful place to double check school activities/dates/clothing requirements, plea for lost property and even organise nights out!
Following our February AGM, we are pleased to announce that in addition to Paula Coppins and Andrew Sierant , our official Friends committee is:
|Louise Cullip & Toni Harris – Co-Chairs||Jenny Allen||Kirsty Lewis|
|Clare Couch – Treasurer||Gill Pike||Mel French|
|Sarah Lancaster – Secretary||Caroline Brain||Debra Wells|
While all the members of the School Community are ‘Friends’, the Committee meets regularly to organise the Schools’ fund raising events and of course use these funds to buy lots of outside-school-budget treats and equipment for our children.
We would like to add that without the help of parents, we would not be able to cover everything and it is really important to us that the Friends and the Friends’ Committee continues so we can raise money for both educational tools and the fun extras. If you would like to assist at any Friends events, we would love to hear from you. Obviously will send out pleas for specific assistance required nearer the time and are grateful for your continued support and assistance. Thank you.
