River Dart Residential – Day 2

Hello to all our lovely parents back at home!

We have had another fun-packed, adventurous day here at the River Dart! We all awoke to cloud but we have not let this dampen our spirits today! Following dorm inspections, we made our way to the breakfast hall where we were greeted with a full English breakfast, cereal and toast. Feeling full, we then got ready for our day’s events!

Morning

Groups 1 and 2

This morning we had fun on the lake, taking part in canoeing and kayaking. We played several games, including battleships, and raced around. We practised standing up… with some success as some of us capsized! With some of the games came forfeits, one of which involved the children filling their helmet with water and then putting it back on again. Mrs Hillier and myself were feeling competitive and powered around the lake too. Following this, we rowed in our canoes and had a go at spinning around in the least number of strokes, as well as squeezing under a tiny bridge. We got completely and utterly soaked and at the end the children were given the opportunity to belly slide into the water, head first!

Groups 3 and 4

Group 3 and 4 had crate stacking and zip lining this morning which they thoroughly enjoyed!

Group 5 and 6

Groups 5 and 6 had a very wet morning, involving raft building! They had to use barrels and wooden poles, with string attached, to attempt to build a floating raft. They did this brilliantly!

Here are the pictures from our very exciting morning:

Afternoon

Groups 1 and 2

This afternoon groups 1 and 2 had fun crate stacking and zip lining! In group 2, Harry was particularly good at the bee-laying and the boys were the best group in terms of how many crates they layered up! We really enjoyed swinging through the trees like Tarzan during the zip line and were really lucky to get more than one go!

Groups 3 and 4

Group 3 and 4 had fun with the canoes and kayaks this afternoon. Mrs Wilson and Mrs Prior were particularly impressed with Leah who managed to run across all of the kayaks and Marcus who submerged himself underwater!

Group 5 and 6

Up in the trees, group 5 and 6 were monkeying around during the high ropes. Mrs Lees and Mrs Bravington apologise for no photos but said that they could not focus on keeping themselves alive, and take photos at the same time whilst they were up very high! The children did brilliantly around the course, which is very similar to Go-Ape, and some children even surprised themselves and managed to get around twice!

Here are our photos from this afternoon:

Evening

Tonight we had pork, crackling, mash and vegetables for dinner, followed by the BIGGEST ice-cream sundae. Groups 1 to 3 have been busy taking part in mini olympics which involved racing against each other, making the longest line of clothing possible, getting group members through hoops and acting like babies and old men! Groups 4-6 took part in ‘Gymo course’ which involved finding different clues with letters and numbers.

The children are absolutely loving it here. Having only been here for a few days, they have already named it ‘the best residential ever’ (a real quote from many of the children) and some of them have decided they want to live here. Forever.

Tomorrow is forecasted for rain so please do a sun dance for us as many of us are off site all day and we do not want to be caught in a torrential downpour!

I hope you are enjoying the updates and the photos of the children. It was so lovely to see so many comments on the blog this morning, especially as I keep updating the blog at every spare second of the day, ready to publish for the evening!

Goodnight from a group of 54 very lovely and excitable children and 6 very exhausted yet happy adults!

Over and out.
