Today, Thursday 23rd June, we held our own referendum on whether the UK should remain part of or leave the European Union. Over the last few weeks pupils have been learning about what the EU is, its history, why the UK is holding a referendum and its importance in a democracy and why today’s decision will affect them as future adults.
Year 6 did a great job presenting the debate clearly to the rest of the school. They probably did a better job than the politicians in explaining clearly the different points. Both sides were very persuasive. There could well be some future politicians in Year 6.
During the afternoon, after some engaging debates among groups of friends at lunchtime, all the pupils voted whether to remain or leave.
RESULT: The pupils at Manor Farm Junior School decided that we should remain. However it was a very close result with 54% deciding to stay and 46% voting to leave!
