Manor Farm Girls Road to Tournament Glory
Amy ©, Lila, Isla, Evie, Ellie, Jessica, Ruby, Alana
In the group stages Manor Farm played two matches before going through to the semi-final. In our first match we drew 0-0 but we played very well in and around their penalty area and we were safe with Alana in goal.
In our second match we were loads more confident but unfortunately went 1-0 down. We fought back and our hard work paid off when Evie scored a skilful goal. Ellie then took an outstanding shot that ended up in the back of the net. We continued the pressure forcing the opposition to score an own goal making the full time score 3-1.
We won our group which lead us into the semi-finals against Tyler`s Green, which was tough as we knew they had some very good players. It was a tense ten minutes which resulted in extra time as no goals were scored even though we had our chances. Lila and Isla were a strong defence and did well at booting the ball up the pitch. In the final minute of extra time we were awarded a free kick just outside the box.
As Amy stood forward to take the free kick she could hear Mr Cook shout, “this is your moment Amy, remember David Beckham!!!” As everyone held their breath the ball curled into the bottom corner… GOAL and we were into the final.
We were up against a very strong team from St. Pauls who had won every match so far. With encouragement from our supporters we had belief that we could win this. After 6 minutes Amy powered the ball into the back of the net but very soon after St. Pauls equalised.
Straight away from the centre kick, Evie tapped the ball back to Amy and she amazed everyone (and herself) as she blasted the ball into the goal from the half way line. Ruby kept on battling whilst running up and down the wing putting in some super tackles. Jessica was an incredible goalie keeping us in the game by making a couple of great saves, including one with her head! There was great relief when the final whistle blew and Manor Farm had won the tournament.
All the girls played their part and enjoyed receiving their trophies, lifting the cup and celebrating!
