Homework due in on Tuesday 6th December
Christmas Production – Ongoing
This week we are not giving you any set homework as such. This is because our whole school Christmas Production is now not far away and we want to make sure you are prepared. This is what you need to make sure you do before now and next week:
- Practise your speaking lines off by heart.
- Practise the lines and actions to your class’ song
- Learn the whole school songs (Having fun at Christmas and Christmas all over the world) – You need to know these off by heart and back to front!
3A and 3B – You need to make sure you bring in the costume bits that we have asked for by Monday 5th December (THIS MONDAY) at the latest. You must also bring in a NAMED hanger, so that we can hang it on our costume rail. This is very important as we are having a pre-dress rehearsal with costumes on Friday 9th. If you are having any difficulty finding/getting part of your costume, your parent MUST come and speak to your teacher in person or write a note so that we can arrange something. This needs to be done as soon as possible.
English – Due MONDAY 5th December
Next week we are starting a lovely 2 week unit on a book by Michael Morpurgo. In preparation for MONDAY’s lesson, we need you to bring in a picture of the front of your house. This will be getting stuck into your English book so please bring a photo that you do not mind sticking in. Without this picture, you will find your task very difficult.
Even though we are not setting specific homework, we are still expecting you to be learning your times tables every day in preparation for Cracking Times Tables. Some of you are improving loads and we do not want this progress to stop.
Remember we expect you to record at least 4 pieces of reading in your Home School Book. We will collect home school books in every Monday. Please make sure you get an adult to sign your book. We are looking to award ‘Reader of the Week’ to the children who are challenging themselves with a new book, or are recording interest comments in the comment section. If you haven’t been reader of the week this year yet, this would be a great achievement to aim for!
Have a good weekend!
It is now December which means it’s time to start feeling Christmassy!
Miss Bartropp and Miss Weston
Maths: LC: Can I understand place value?
Following our assessments this week we would like the children to practise their place value skills. We have given them a sheet to complete.
English: Please read and practise the Roman poem ready to perform it in class next week.
Also continue practising the songs for the Christmas production.
We have been looking at how to create plurals for words ending in a y. The rule is take off the ‘y’ add ‘ies’. Please write at least 2 sentences from your spelling list to show you understand their meaning.
Eg: The children enjoyed their Christmas parties.
Challenge: link all your sentences into a story. Please remember to bring your spelling book back into school for your test on Thursdays.
In preparation for the Christmas Production, we would like you to learn the lyrics for all 3 songs you will be singing: We’re having fun at Christmas; Christmas all over the World; A kangaroo at Christmas (5A); Christmas in 63 (5B). If you have a speaking part, please practise your lines so that you know them by heart. You need to make sure that you speak loudly, confidently and that everyone can understand what you are saying (no mumbling!).
We will be having a dress rehearsal on Friday so we would like you to bring in your costume in for Wednesday next week so we can check that everybody has something suitable. If there is a prop that goes with your costume, please bring that in too.
We have been thinking about relative clauses this week in our SPAG lessons. Please complete the given sheet or complete page 26 & 27 of your KS2 SAT Buster Grammar Book. If you don’t have a book yet you will get it next week as there were not enough for books for everyone.
We have been looking at volume this week. Please complete the sheet (ON THE SHEET) or complete page 17 & 18 in your KS2 Maths SAT Buster Book – Number, Ratio & Algebra. If you are in Mrs Prior’s maths set you should also complete the sheet on volume that has been given to you.
Remember to complete your mental maths questions in your maths homework book as well.
Please continue to read as often as you can. Remember to record four times and write a little bit about what you are reading. This should also be signed by an adult.
You have been given the next statutory list of spellings to learn over the next week. Remember to write your sentences FOR EACH SPELLING in your spelling book and have these ready for Monday morning.
