Year 4

Maths

Miss Bartropp’s Maths Set

Title: Can I find fractions of quantities?

This week we have been using the rule of divide by the bottom and times by the top to work our fractions of quantities. For example: 2/7 of 14. You divide 14 by 7 to get 2, and then multiply the 2 by the numerator (which is 2) to get 4.

Stars and Hexagons – You have been given a sheet of different mazes to solve! You must calculate the fractions of amounts, and draw lines to work your way through the maze, depending on what you think the answer is. You must try and make it to the finish line!  You may work on the maze sheet and then glue it into your book.

Triangles and Squares– You have been given sheet called ‘Would you rather?’ which has fractions of amounts for money! You must calculate the answers and write them next to the question and then circle the one which you would rather – obviously you want the highest amount!

Pentagons and Diamonds – You have been given sheet called ‘Would you rather?’ which has fractions of amounts for money! You must calculate the answers and write them next to the question and then circle the one which you would rather – obviously you want the highest amount! You need to be careful because some of your amounts are in £ and p so you may need to use bus stop to divide by the denominator and multiply using column.

All of you must make sure you have the short date and title in your homework book, underlined beautifully with a ruler.

Year 5

This week, in a lucky dip, we have all pulled out a football team who are playing in the World Cup. We want you to complete some homework activities based on the country you have got.

  1. Using the sheet of the body, design a new kit for your country’s team. The kit design should be based on the colours of the country’s flag and should include shirt, shorts, socks and boots. You could use two sheets and do a front and a back design if you want a challenge.

  1. Find out some geographical facts about your country. Here are some suggestions:

Capital city

Other large cities

Continent

Neighbouring countries

Population size

Rivers

Seas and oceans

Mountains

Languages spoken

Currency

Famous landmarks and buildings

Famous people who were born in your country

Sports and leisure pastimes

Special food dishes

Present your information neatly in a fact file. Make your presentation on the page clever and interesting. You could type this on the computer.

You have until Wednesday 20th June to complete these tasks.

Remember we are starting to sew our pizza cushions next week. Bring in any buttons, beads or fabric which will help you create your pizza design.  And some stuffing! Thank you!
