Can I solve word problems?

For your maths homework this week, we would like you to attempt at least 6 word problems from the sheet that has been given to you.

You should remember to write a beautifully neat date and title in your maths homework book, and underline them with a ruler. This week, you may work on the sheet provided and then stick it in your book.

Please complete your homework using a pencil.

Remember we also expect you to read at home at least 4 times a week and record this in your Home School Book. We will collect home school books in every Monday to look at your reading record for the previous week and will be awarding house points for the amount of reading you have completed.

Also remember to practise your times tables for our cracking times tables test on Monday.

English

This week in English we have been looking at writing complaint letters, and the formal language used within them. For homework, we would like you to choose one of the following situations and write a short complaint letter to describe your experience. You can choose either:

  1. A terrible stay at a hotel abroad
  2. Awful service at a restaurant
  3. Bad experience on an aeroplane journey

Remember that complaint letters include: rhetorical questions, exaggeration, formal openers (E.g. firstly, to add insult to injury, to make matters worse), detail and thoughts and feelings. The structure of your letter will include: why you are writing, two paragraphs explaining your reasons for complaining and a final paragraph detailing what you would like as a result of your experience e.g. compensation, a refund. Don’t forget to spend 30-40 minutes on this homework.

Reading/Times Tables

Please continue to read as often as you can. Make sure you are also learning your times tables.
