Music is taught for half an hour, every week, for each class in each year group. Children are encouraged to enjoy singing, whether it be in groups or a solo performance. All children take part, singing in annual festivals such as harvest.
Children learn about how music is written down, they compose extra verses to songs, find out about composers and appreciate the creativity expressed by musicians. They are also given opportunities to compose themselves and create sound walls to accompany stories and poems. For this they use both pitched and unpitched instruments.
All children are offered lessons on musical instruments (such as guitar, violin) by visiting teachers. You should let the school know if you are interested in your child learning to play an instrument or to have a singing lesson. We have now started a school choir, which is open to all pupils and also have visits from groups, such as the choir from a local secondary school. Our Year Six pupils perform an annual musical production.
