Huge congratulations to 30 tremendous Year 6 children who sang and danced their hearts out at the O2 Arena on Tuesday evening! Your commitment to after school rehearsals since September last year, plus learning a long list of songs and accompanying dance moves really paid off. All the hard work was worth it, and you certainly did our school, your family and yourselves proud!
After an action packed day of travel and rehearsal, we joined approximately 8,100 other children from the South East of England as one mass choir to perform songs from all genres of music – ranging from a Coldplay and Michael Jackson classic to a medley of American folk songs. We ended the concert on a real high with a medley of hits from The Greatest Showman, beginning with an encouraging voice over message from Hugh Jackman himself!
A personal highlight for myself and members of staff was a guest appearance from Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet fame! We also had the privilidge of singing alongside Beau Dermott (Britain’s Got Talent) and Sharlene Hector (Basement Jaxx). They all promoted the idea of believing in yourself and never giving up on your dreams, no matter how long it takes or how hard the battle.
Although we were seated on the upper floor in the arena, we were centre front which gave us a clear view of the whole choir, conductor, musicians and dancers plus all the special effects throughout the performance.
A massive thank you to all the families and friends who came to support us in the audience, particularly with such a bad weatherforecast on the horizon! We could see you waving, and it was brilliant to share our amazing experience with you.
I would also like to thank everyone here at school who commited their time and help to make this event possible for the children: Mrs Bravington and Mrs Payne who have supported me from the start of this adventure, as well as Mrs Ketley from Year 6 who joined us for the trip and took all our photos. Thanks also to Mrs Oxby who stepped in at the last minute to accompany us on the day.
Please enjoy some wonderful memories from our big trip to London, which give a flavour of our night to remember at the O2.
Keep singing everyone!
Mrs Jones and all the YV Team
