Can I recite text using actions and picture clues?

For your English homework this week, we would like you to practise reciting our model text using the actions we have learnt in class together with the picture clues you have created for yourself.

On Friday we will provide you with a copy of your text map (so far) and the model text to help you practise.

Parents: please note and sign in your child’s home school book to confirm that  they have spent time practising.

Times Tables and Reading

Make sure you are also learning your times tables every day. We do Cracking Times Tables every Monday.

Remember we expect you to record at least 4 pieces of reading in your home school book. We will collect home school books in every Monday. Please make sure you get an adult to sign your book.

Year 5

This week we have been working hard on our new Talk For Writing model text – this is an information text all about killer whales. Later in the topic you will write you own information text about your own choice of animal using all the skills we are learning. It needs to be an endangered animal. So we are asking you for homework this week to research an endangered animal of your choice so you will have lots of facts to include in your future writing.

You could choose a gorilla, sea turtle, orangutan, Sumatran elephant or rhino if you wanted to or another animal.

This website might help you choose an animal.

https://a-z-animals.com/animals/endangered/

You should find out facts under these headings: appearance, habitat, adaptations to habitat, diet and food and why they are endangered/strategies to protect them, plus any other interesting facts you have discovered.

This research can be made in note form , but will need to be able to recall it and use it later in your writing. Make sure you don’t just copy facts which you do not understand from the internet. You could find some pictures too which can be added to your final best draft of writing.
