Due in on Wednesday 29th January

Maths

Title: Can I multiply?

For your maths homework this week, we would like you to complete the multiplication worksheet that has been given to you.

Please remember to write a beautifully neat date and title in your maths homework book and underline them with a ruler. We would also like you to stick your worksheet in.

Spellings

We feel it would benefit the children to revisit their spellings that were tested this week. The spellings given were part of the government statutory list which can prove tricky for some. Therefore, in order to improve confidence, we would like to retest on Tuesday 28th.

Times Tables and Reading

Make sure you are also learning your times tables every day. We do Cracking Times Tables every Monday.

Remember we expect you to record at least 4 pieces of reading in your home school book. We will collect home school books in every Monday. Please make sure you get an adult to sign your book.

Roman Day Project

Making a Roman Shield

As you know we are holding a Roman Day on Tuesday 25th February. One activity in the day will involve learning how to drill as Roman soldiers. To add to the atmosphere we would like the children to make their own shields.

Here is a link to a video suggestion for how you could make one or there are many other ideas on Pinterest or the internet generally.

We hope this will be a fun activity to share with your child over the holiday period.

It would be lovely for you to put your own spin on the design.

Enjoy!

Year 5

Maths – Both groups

This week we have been working on Measures. For homework we would like you to do some practical weighing (you may need an adult to help you). You will need some weighing scales. We would like you to weigh about ten items – a range of light to heavy objects. Read the intervals on the scales carefully or the digital number. Record the weights in a chart using the headings below. Miss Wolfe/Mrs Baker’s set – you need to show you can write the weight in both g and kg.

Name of item         weight in grams    weight in kilograms

Extra challenge:

Measure and record the height of all your family- in cm and m (you could show this in feet and inches too.)

Weigh yourself and all you family in g and kg (you could even show this as stones and pounds too.)

Geography – Thursday 30th January

Next week during our Geography lesson, we are going to be designing and building an earthquake proof house.  Please can you bring to school some materials that you would like to create your building like sellotape, cardboard boxes, blue tac, string, cardboard tubes. This needs to come into school on Thursday 30th January.
